Head of Scientific Affairs
Andreia Carvalho was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1981.
She graduated in Chemistry and Biotechnology from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, in 2004. In 2005 she was selected to the prestigious international GABBA doctoral program, which funded her PhD studies at the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, Spain.
During her doctoral studies, she was the representative of the graduate students and member of the graduate committee. She was awarded her Doctoral Degree in 2011 with summa cum laude. Having a clear aim to pursuit a career in science management, she obtained the Master in Leadership and Management in Science and Innovation from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) in 2010.
In 2011 she joined the Barcelonabeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) of Pasqual Maragall Foundation in Barcelona, as Scientific Affairs Manager.
She was involved in the planning and implementation of the BBRC's scientific project, led the design and implementation of its new biomedical research centre, created and implemented the recruitment policy for scientific staff, was responsible for coordinating all pre pre-proposal, pre-award and post-award activity for the research community, the organization of scientific meetings and the development of relationships and partnerships with other institutions and research centres.
In January 2015 she joined the MRC Center for Developmental Neurobiology, King's College London as Head of Scientific Affairs.
